The
objectives of the SNR(South) are to encourage and disseminate
research into all matters of nautical and maritime interest.
Membership is open to anybody interested in these
matters. Founded
in 1962 to promote historical study of ships, seafaring, and other
maritime-related subjects; with particular reference to the South
of England. It was the first regional branch of the Society for
Nautical Research (founded 1910).
The SNR(South) usually meet at 2 pm on the second Saturday of each month from October to May but check before you arrive. We meet in the Royal Naval Club & Royal Albert Yacht Club, 17 Pembroke Road, Old Portsmouth (near the Cathedral). Meetings start at 1400. Members and Guests may lunch beforehand in the Club (full lunch or bar menu) - and enjoy the view over Southsea Common and the Solent while doing so.
